It's a labor of love and while we would love to put on this event for you, we need about 10 people to step up and take the time to help us put it on. The more people that help, the less any individual needs to do.

If you haven't been around long enough to know what @matchmaking is, let me explain:

This is a multi-round event for 18+ members. You apply, you fill out a form, and then we match you with other members based on your shared interests. You have about 48 hours to figure out if you like each other, and then you fill out a scorecard. At the end of the event, if you both said 👍🏻 to each other, you're "matched" and able to DM. If you said 👎🏻, you can't contact each other - no harm, no foul, no guilt.

We're going to need help to get this year's matchmaking event up and running. We want to bring this event back, but it takes a village to make this work and we are in desperate need of assistance.

We need people to:

• Write "reasons" for why people match.

• Help keep things organized.
• HYPE HYPE HYPE the chats.

If this sounds like something you'll have time to do in early November, we're happy to spend the next two weeks training you on what you need to do.

Over the past few months, we've been hard at work behind the scenes refining how RPC operates. With Lucid taking over much of the routine work that previously occupied our moderators, we've had the opportunity to rethink how our staff team functions and where we can best support the community.

As a result, we're introducing a new staff structure designed to better reflect the different ways our team contributes to RPC!

🎉 RPC | Engagement

Formerly known as Help Desk!

This is the biggest change to our staff team, and one we're especially excited about.

Engagement is dedicated to making RPC feel like a thriving community. Their role isn't moderation—it's conversation.

You'll see them welcoming new members, keeping discussions flowing, participating in their favorite topics, and helping make RPC a friendly place to spend time.

They're also the team behind many of our community initiatives, including Word of the Week, RP Bingo, Live RP events, writing prompts, server activities, and future community projects. If something fun is happening around the server, there's a good chance Engagement had a hand in making it happen!

⚙️ RPC | Operations

Our back-end moderation team.

Operations focuses on keeping the server running smoothly behind the scenes. This includes bot management, ticket support, age verification, technical upkeep, and other operational tasks.

🛎️ RPC | Concierge

Our front-end moderation team.

Concierge is responsible for the day-to-day member experience, including channel moderation, advert approvals, infractions, and assisting members through Ask the Staff.

Operations and Concierge are both moderator roles—they've simply been divided into front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities so our team can focus on what they do best while continuing to support one another.

Hey, y'all! Thanks to the incredible work of @user (congrats on becoming staff, my guy) - we have a ton of shiny new features for the bot that lightens the load of staff considerably.

It does mean you'll see the bot pinging you in #rule_infractions rather than staff!

As part of it's update, it'll now handle:

• Quick Reactions (it'll ping if you didn't add enough, or added the wrong ones)
• Quick Links (it'll ping you if you put links where they ought not be)
• Headers (it'll ping if you put them in one on one channels)
• Headers Pt. 2 (it'll ping if you have too many in groups)
• Images (it'll ping if you have them in one on one channels)
• Duplicates (it'll ping if you have the same ad in multiple channels)
• Bonus Reactions (it'll auto-remove them if you add them to others' ads)

Two things that deserve their own recognition...

• We have introduced some banned words into the mix. We are removing the use of ||futa|| and ||futanari|| in the server. They are considered slurs in most places, or a fetishization and we don't condone that. We have also banned the use of the word ||gypsy|| in adverts.

• We have fixed the character count situation. You should now be able to get right up to that 2k limit without worrying about your fun fonts triggering multiple characters or your emojis counting as 27 characters because they're named something egregious.

We're excited to announce the launch of two new Live RP channels for our community!

☕ Modern Café RP (All Ages)

Step into a cozy contemporary café setting where characters can meet, socialize, work, and study in a relaxed modern-day environment.

🍻 Medieval Tavern RP (18+)

For our adult community members, we're opening a lively medieval tavern where adventurers, nobles, merchants, and wanderers can gather for merriment, or heckling the resident bard. You must have completed age verification to access this environment.

✨ But that's not all!

The Live RP section has undergone a complete overhaul to reflect Community-style forum posting. Your character gets an individual profile post for gallery-style indexing, and each live room is clearly delineated with a title and cover image. Additionally, these initial themes aren't permanent. Both Live RP channels will rotate through new settings on a planned schedule, giving everyone fresh worlds, genres, and storytelling opportunities to explore throughout the year.

Whether you enjoy slice-of-life interactions, fantasy adventures, or simply meeting new characters, there's something for everyone.

First things first, the ~engagement:

We'll be updating some of our more "interactive" things to run on a schedule and we're adding even more! As y'all know, Ty has diligently been posting our question of the day, weekly prompt, and question of the week. Now we're going to be adding more from our other Help Desk™ members!

Second things second, the ~events:

We'll be bringing back the live roleplay channels! Our moderation team will maintain two live roleplay rooms - one for all ages, and one for those with the 18+ role - for anyone to "drop in" and participate! These channels are now forum-style, where you will see teh active rooms as open posts, and we will archive scenes once they end to keep things fresh! Scenarios for each section will rotate as things come to a natural stopping point.

To kick things off, our first all-ages room has a modern cafe theme and our first 18+ room has a medieval tavern theme!

We're also unveiling a shiny new event entirely: The RPC Trading Card Game (TCG). It'll be a forum-based channel set where you fill in some information and we'll make a "trading card" with your information, tag it appropriately, and you'll have access to a channel with it! People can reach out to you via that channel and you choose whether or not you want to send a DM!

Third things third, the ~updates:

We'll be scootin' stuff around, updating the rules, and hopefulling re-doing the role menu sooner rather than later. Don't panic if you pop in and things seem... different.

Four things last, the ~staffing:

As you all know, RPC is a volunteer-run server! We are all working our hardest to keep this an engaging, welcoming, and active server for you.

We need two more boosts to keep the bee on the [RPC] tag, anyone have some spare ones to give?

Normally, we don't make announcements like this but with so many new faces and moderators needing to remind people almost daily of our rules, I just wanted to go over a few things.

o3. Avoid venting or calling out other members.

We do not allow for attention-seeking behavior or "call out" culture on RPC. Continuous and/or consistent complaining, venting, or whining may result in disciplinary action. If you believe there is reason for concern, please reach out to a staff member directly or create a ticket using #open_a_ticket .

To be clear, this includes complaining about being ghosted, not being able to find a roleplay partner, partners being unavailable, etc. Why? Two reasons.

1. This is a shared experience everyone has. It's an unfortunate part of the hobby that people lose interest, are afraid of confrontation, have life get in the way, what have you - it sucks, we agree, but whining about it won't do you any good in the long run.

2. Because you're only shooting yourself in the foot when you complain about these things. Most roleplayers will look someone up in the server they share to get an idea of what kind of person they are. If someone searches your name and it's all complaints about your current / past roleplay partners, it's likely it will turn potential partners away.

o4. RPC is primarily a safe for work (SFW) server.

We allow for age 15+ members and expect all discussion in our open channels to remain considerate of the fact that minors also occupy this space. Topics that contain sex, violence, and/or drugs should be kept to the 18+ channels. We follow US common law regarding age of consent (18 years old).

We are proud to say that we host a wide range of ages in this server, with everyone from fifteen years old to some members in their fifties. Writing is one of those unique hobbies where everyone can explore and flex their creative muscles at any age and while we love fostering that, I think some folks forget that (almost) all ages are welcome here in the shared spaces.

Alright, alright. I think it's time we let the cat out of the bag.

WE'RE TRYING TO MAKE MATCHMAKING HAPPEN.

In mid-February, and exact dates are still TBD.

But, do you know what that means? It means that we are desperately in need of volunteers to make it happen. We're down a significant amount of staff compared to what we typically have to run one of these and we need your help!

If you've got some free time at the beginning of February, we'd love to have some new volunteers and fresh faces (or returning helpers) to put this event on for the server.

How many people do you need, Cas?
We need about 6-8 more hands on deck.

What are the requirements to be a helper?
You need to be 18+, have a good 1-2 hours of free time a day, ideally you should have participated in a matchmaking event previously, and while not required, having a "completionist" attitude really seems to help.

What does the workload look like?
While it's definitely dependent on how many hands on deck we have, the biggest things we need help with are:

Doing the actual matching!

Writing up the "reasons" people get matched.

Keeping activity going in the event channels.

However much time you can dedicate is how much time it takes, and we usually only have about 48-60 hours between rounds to close down rooms, match, adjust, write reasons, fill in the new rooms, and get them open.

• And making sure everything meets the RPC seal of approval.
  (Think: gentle detective work, but for cool roleplay spaces.)

This server turned eight years old this month!

A few things I want to add on to Ali's announcement:

• A few channel names have changed, but nothing that should make you panic. We just shorted some things to make it easier to know what they are!
• We also moved some things around... like the VC channels! They're now at the bottom of the category
• You also might notice some channels are gone! 😱 If they didn't get moved into the #media_discussion or #media_sharing forums, then they were likely a little-used channel that simply needed to go to make room for the new ones!

New categories!

• Writing chat and writing help have been split! If you just wanna chatter, answer questions, and show off a sick post you wrote, writing chat is your place to be. If you want to get some help, you can "workshop" in the new section!

Plus, we're working on some new workshops like a "monthly topic" and an actual "workshop" for our members!

A note on forums:

• We're trying something NEW with these! A neat, easy way to keep all of those ~bonus conversations clean and organized. Not only that, they're a lot easier to get to when its a tap to get to the topic you wanna hyperfixate about. 😜
• That being said, the old channels still exist! They're at the veeery bottom of the server in a category labeled ARCHIVE. If there's anything you need to save from those channels, please do so this weekend before they go away forever!

A note on things to come:

• A TTRPG section! It's in the works, but get EXCITED because it's coming. It exists. It's there. It'll be time soon.

Slight update, nothing too wild -

We've adjusted our cooldown time for groups ads to one week instead of two. This makes everything under our group ads category (seeking staff/groups, original, fandom and nsfw groups) all a flat 7 day cooldown period.

Refresher:

4 day cooldown for all of our one-on-one ads
7 day cooldown for all of our group ads

These are all bot monitored (with the exception of the seeking staff and seeking groups channels, as you can post for more than one server/group), so remember to utilize our #can_i_post channel if you want to know how much time you have left before you can repost!

We're hoping this makes it a little easier to follow for everyone. ❤️

Hey everyone! A day early, but with the help from two amazing individuals, we've sorted out groups and did a little changing to our adverts channels in regards to our cooldown.

This affects our @looking | dms open and @neutral | advert only as well as @group advertiser, so pardon the pings but it's a good change!

There's been a rework of our bot and our old slowmode bot has been removed. We've got some updating around the channels and rules to do still but essentially -

You won't be locked out automatically now if there's an issue with your post. The bot WILL yeet your ad if you 1. Attempt to post before your cooldown is up, 2. Go over the character or word limit for the channel (100 words for quick, 2k characters for original, fandom, 18+ channels as well as our groups) or 3. You still have an old ad up. You will be given the chance to rectify any of the issues before the cooldown starts. This applies to ALL of our ad channels, both one-on-one and groups.

If you correct any mistakes and successfully post an ad, and decide sometime during the cooldown period to delete the post, THEN you will not be able to repost until the remainder of your cooldown period is up. This is something we cannot override, so if you want to make changes to your ad, please utilize the Edit function!

If your post was removed, the reason why it was taken down will be sent to you in DMs from the bot. It's the YAGPDB bot, so if you want that information, make sure it isn't blocked or muted. 'Can I post' will still function as it used to, with the addition of our group channels now!

A reminder for our @group advertiser people - you won't be able to post for more than one group now. If you're one of the few who used to post for multiple groups, please make sure you get in touch with someone else and have them advertise for the others.

Hey everyone! Small but important announcement, particularly for our @group advertiser role. 5/13/2024 we are going to be applying our cooldown bot to our #original_groups, #fandom_groups and #18⁺_groups channels. This means that you will be unable to post multiple groups under your name. There are a handful of you that post for more than one group, so this is a one-week alert to assign someone else from those groups to handle the other ads if you post more than one.

This also means that groups are subjected to the same rules as our one-on-one channels. Meaning you must make sure you delete your old ad before reposting and any mistakes should be corrected with the Edit function (do not delete!) because we'll be unable to reset the cooldown for you if you don't.

That's right, RPC fam, after a nine month hiatus, the time has come again! With winter weather making us want to stay inside with hot tea and a cozy blanket, what better time to scope out some new writing partners?

How does it work?

Long story short, it's roleplay Tinder. You're paired off by the matchmakers based on shared writing interests and given 48 hours to hit it off. At the end of the round, you give us the :thumbsup: or the :thumbsdown: and we take note.

At the end of the event, you give us your final thoughts and if you both "swiped right," a staff member will let you know! Only then can you DM each other, so it takes the pressure off of those of us that have a little trouble saying "no."

• MATCHMAKING IS BACK. [Airhorns, party poppers]. Oh yes, it's been a while, but staff are gearing up to run a new matchmaking season throughout the month of February. We'll be asking for new matchmaking helpers in the next week- so if you've participated before and feel like you'd like to give back to the community by helping with our event, this is a great time to start thinking about it! Thank you all for your patience with this big update. We're still working out some things, but our new, updated ad channels have been opened! Adjustments will be made to our rules over the coming day or so, but in a nutshell:

• There is now a 4 day cooldown period across ALL of our one-on-one ad channels, regardless of whether it is a repost or a new idea. The moment you send a message in a channel, your cooldown starts. Please be sure to check the pinned messages in the channels for further details on how and when to post/repost.
• There is a firm 2k character cap on our long-form (non-quick) channels now. The bot WILL remove your message if it’s too long and it will still count towards your cooldown.
• Deleting your post if you want to change something in it does not reset your cooldown. If you want to make changes prior to the 4 days, please just edit your post.
• Please utilize ‘Can I post?’ in our brand new #can_i_post channel! The cooldown does not have a visible timer, so if you don’t want to keep track of when you last posted, the command above will send you a DM to let you know if you’re eligible.

Please double, triple or quadruple check the rules and pinned posts!

The cooldown is set in stone and is not something that we can change or remove from you if you make a mistake or don’t delete your old ad, go over the character limit, etc. If you have questions, we are always here to help and answer!

In short, when reposting – delete your old ad, don’t go over the character or word limit and check your eligibility to repost in our #can_i_post channel!

Note: If you are pinged in infractions and you do not make the necessary changes asked and we have to delete your ad, you aren’t eligible to repost until your cooldown expires. Please be vigilant and follow the rules.

We also have fun, exciting other things that we're working on adding, but those will also be announced a little later. The changeover has taken a bit more time than we thought, but we didn't want to leave you all hanging for longer than necessary.

Hey there RPC Fam!

@everyone @looking | dms open @neutral | advert only I’ll start off by apologizing for the b i g ping, but this is a b i g change, so please bear with us.

TL;DR – There are going to be some major changes coming to our ad channels including a new 4 day ‘cooldown’ period.

Starting on September 1st, we’re going to be instituting a new method for posting in our ad channels – cooldowns. Currently, we have it set up so that there is a 7 day ‘waiting’ period for reposts, and 24 hour ‘waiting’ period for new ideas. It is a manual process both for you all to remember as well as on the back end keeping everything in line and, frankly, takes a LOT of time. We’ve also gotten feedback that it can be a little confusing to newcomers, and having separate rules for what you can repost and when are complications none of us need.

With this new cooldown feature, things will be simplified. The cooldown will be in effect across ALL of our ad channels (barring group ads). Whether it’s a repost or a new idea, once you post you’ll automatically start your 4 days in that channel. You will be unable to post again until this four day time period is up. This is per channel, so you’re still free to have, say, an original ad up as well as a fandom ad. Breaking rules and causing your advert to be deleted, even if it's prior to the 4 days, does not start the cooldown over. You would have to wait the remaining time out before you could post again so keep our rules in mind.

A few reminders about the ad rules that will not be changing:

• You still MUST delete your old ad before you attempt to repost or post a new ad. With this upcoming change, you risk restarting your cooldown period if you attempt to post again before deleting, and we CANNOT remove the cooldown from you. You would have to wait out another 4 days.
• There is still a 2k character cap on regular ad channels and 100 word cap on our quick channels. Attempting to send a message larger than either of these will cause your post to be deleted and start your cooldown timer. Please check the count before sending.
• Quick channel ads must have the 'quick' reactions and cannot contain links.
• Remember you can't have the same ad up in more than one channel. They must be different.

"Can I post?" in our bot channel will still be functional! It will be changed to reflect the new 4 day cooldown instead of 7 days.

Note: When this goes into effect on September 1st, all of our one-on-one ad channels will be wiped clean. As it is our End of Month time to remove older posts anyway, we are starting with a fresh slate overall. This gives you a week from today to write up a new ad to be ready to go, check out who’s still got one up you might want to get in touch with or just wait things out and get excited for the new changes.

Our #advert_rules channel will be updated to reflect the new changes on September first.

Additionally, as just a fun side bit of info, we're going to be dropping a hot new set of quick reaction emojis. 👀 They're super fun and colorful. Look out for that change on the first as well!

Hey everyone (and particularly our @group advertiser folks)! A little announcement for another change (trust me, there is more fun on the way, too!) that's taking place here.

We've decided to open up a new NSFW-focused group ad channel which can be found > #18⁺_groups. This will be on a trial basis of ~one month. Depending on use, it may become a permanent channel. If it doesn't see enough use to warrant keeping, it will go away.

If the server you're wanting to promote is largely, or primarily, NSFW-centric it should go in this new channel. Only those who have been age verified here in RPC will be able to see the ads in this channel.

This channel will include both original and fandom related groups. If there's enough use of it, we can split between the two later down the road.

A couple of things relating to this:

• All RPC and group ad rules apply to this channel as well. There is a two-week repost cooldown between posts and you must delete your old ad when you repost.
• It must be RP/collaborative writing related. No IRL crossing or blurring, no servers that are just NSFW for the sake of NSFW, etc.
• The channel will be heavily moderated. Any groups that don't adhere to the rules (this includes ones like no toxicity, harassment, etc) will have their ad deleted.
• You MUST have an age gate/verification system in your server in order for new members to join or see NSFW content. We use US law age of consent meaning the minimum age to join or participate in NSFW should be 18.
• The ad itself doesn't have to be SFW, of course, but please employ some level of professionalism in your ad. Anything excessive will be removed.
• Reminder that you must have the advertiser role to post in the channel!

Wait a moment, what? No summer matchmaking? NO SUMMER MATCHMAKING?
Alas RPC family, no. No summer matchmaking. In a bid to give our amazing staff and matchmaking helpers a well-earned break, we will not be running the summer matchmaking event this year. The staff have been put out to pasture to enjoy the daisies, Pimm's and long sunsets.

'But what about all those sweet sweet rps you were going to hook me up with?' Oh don't worry, we hear you.

In place of matchmaking this season, RPC are excited to announce RP lives.
In a nutshell, two all-ages (and one 18+) scenes for drop-in, drop-out roleplay. These will be genre-spanning, open world, freeform boards for you to take the lead on. These will be opening in the next couple of weeks- so get excited, we've been working hard on them for a couple of months!

Additionally, for après, we'll be running a series of roleplay workshops to cover a range of roleplay-related topics, including Q&A sessions on topics you're interested in. Watch this space to give your input on the first workshops you'd like to see.

@group advertiser There are over 400 of you with this role. We do not have 400+ group ads in our group ad channels. This is a reminder that this tag is for those with a Group Advertisement up. It is not a role for advertising for 1x1 RPs. Please remove this role from yourself if you don't have or are planning (in the very near future) to put up a group ad.

Hello, @everyone and @announcements! I know it's not often we use this tag, but this is an important announcement! Please read!

Moving forward, we will be sunsetting both the website and the RPGold Program.

Our goal is to provide everyone with the best experience possible, and both of those are huge time-sinks for our staff! That being said, we'll now have more time to focus on the server, events, and making it a stronger community.

What does this mean for you?

It means we want to hear from you! What do you want to see on your RPC? Do you want more events like movie nights and game nights? Do you want more big events, like roleplay channels and workshops? Do you want to see more channels?

Well, RPC. It's been a fun ride! I'm not leaving, don't worry, and neither is RPC. What I really want to say is that we've now been serving the community for a decade. This month is RPC's 10-year anniversary! Can you believe it?

I haven't been running RPC that whole time, it's not my brain child, but I've been a member since it's conception and worked my way up the ranks helping on this and that until I became the owner. To all the staff, former and current, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You have all put in time, effort, and love into making RPC great. It's a site and server that I am proud to call my own, and it's a service I am more than happy to provide for the community.

And let's be honest... this community is what makes RPC what it is. So thank you to all the members -- new, old, and those that have come and gone throughout the years. You are truly what makes RPC a hub and a community. If there's something I've learned over the last few years of running the Discord (this is year four!), it's that the members make the community. You guys are what makes this place feel welcoming, you are what makes this place feel safe, and you are what makes this place a friendly atmosphere for all.

To honor our 10-year anniversary, we'll be hosting a live RP event, games, movie nights, and a handful of Nitro giveaways throughout the month. Keep an eye out for a weekly calendar of events starting next week and I look forward to seeing you all! Let's celebrate, have some fun, and keep making RPC a great place to be.
